Internet Advice for Home Buyers

The internet is a great resource for information of all
types.  Can it help you through the home buying and home selling process?
It sure can, but you need to be careful where you get your information and how
you use it.

  • Stick with reputable websites.  There is a lot of
home buying advice out there, but not all of it is good advice.  If you
stay on websites with names you know, you are more likely to get mainstream
    advice.  For example, U.S. News&Word
    Report

recently did a story on the

Six Secrets of Internet Home Buying.  News websites can be a good
    way to get reliable information.

  • Take what you need and leave the rest.  With so
much home buying and home selling advice out there, not everything will
apply to your situation.  Trying to use too much information can make
things more confusing.  Try to find information in the areas you don’t
feel as comfortable with and don’t worry about those places where you feel
you already know what you are doing.
  • The internet can be better for some kinds of
information.  If you are looking for tips to fix up those eye sores
before putting your home on the market, the internet can be a great place
    for do-it-yourself projects.
It can also be a great place for doing research on everything from
finding a real estate agent to real
estate affordability in your area.  For more tricky questions, you may
need to find an Indiana real estate agent to help you out.
  • Know when to say when.  Information overload can
drive you crazy.  You need to know when it’s time to find your own real
estate agent so you can have someone who knows you, knows the market in your
area and can help you personally.

DoorFly is a great
example of a website that can help you with one of the most important choices
you’ll make, choosing a real estate agent.  They can make the process even
easier by helping you to negotiate real estate agent fees and even find you a
home buyer rebate.
